Posted: 10/04/2024Rhode Island Slave History Medallions (RISHM) is seeking to hire part time seasonal Tour Guides for its Newport Black History Walking Tour 2025. Are you passionate about BIPOC history, comfortable speaking in front of large groups, and able to memorize scripts? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Tour Guide duties include:
-Leading groups of 10-25 participants on a Black History Walking Tour through Newport’s Colonial Historic District following a researched and pre-rehearsed script.
-Attending required trainings and staff meetings associated with Walking Tour and following our Anti-Bias Manuel and principals.
-Checking in tour participants, assisting with ticketing issues or questions, being knowledgeable about FAQs.
-Collecting survey feedback from tour goers.
-Collaborating with RISHM staff to ensure a seamless tour experience.
-Follow RISHM policies & procedures and safety protocols.
Ideal candidates will have:
-Strong communication skills, outgoing personality, and experience with group facilitation.
-Availability: any Saturday, Sunday or Monday during tour hours 10:00am-11:15am May- October
-Interest and knowledge in Rhode Island history, history of the enslaved and social justice.
-BIPOC candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
