• Payroll and Benefits Specialist

    Reports to:  Human Resources Manager

    Position Summary: 
    St. George’s School is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to support the Human Resources Department. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll and employee benefits.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and process biweekly payroll
    • Process biweekly remittances to 403(b), HSA and Church Pension vendors
    • Process background and DMV checks on applicable faculty, staff and family members 
    • Prepare new hire information packets and assist with new hire orientations
    • Process new hires in all relative systems
    • Maintain employee benefit elections system (new employees, status changes, etc.)
    • Assist employees with benefit questions
    • Maintain payroll deductions (medical, dental, vision, retirement, FSA, HSA)
    • Process employee status changes (W-4, I-9, direct deposit, 403(b) contributions, telephone & address, etc.) 
    • Prepare COBRA and other separation documents 
    • Maintain databases for life & AD&D, short-term and long-term disability, FSA’s, and other employee information
    • Process short-term and long-term disability claims
    • Maintain personnel files for employees
    • Perform required non-discrimination testing for 403(b) plan
    • Comply with federal and state regulations prior to all deadlines
    • Maintain the ACA and RI Paid Sick Leave on a monthly basis
    • Process end of year ACA reporting
    • Provide RI Paid Sick Leave letters to eligible part-time employees
    • Assist with benefits open enrollment 
    • Perform employment verifications 
    • Assist in filing accident reports with Workers Comp carrier 
    • Participate in wage and benefit surveys (ABOPS, NAIS, NEASC) as requested 
    • Prepare and file the PCORI form
    • Prepare and provide layoff letters to seasonal staff for all school breaks 
    • Proof insurance invoices for accuracy of participants, coverage, and billing amounts
    • Distribute Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs)
    • Process and respond to resumes and Employment Applications
    • Assist with annual 403(b) audit
    • Other duties as assigned

    Skills/Qualifications:

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Human Resources
    • 5 years of Payroll and HR experience in benefits administration and employee records
    • Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to labor laws, pension plans, healthcare reform, FMLA, ERISA, COBRA, etc.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
    • Attention to detail and accuracy
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Mature judgment
    • Experience with Google platform and Microsoft Office 
    • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding)
    • Candidate must pass nationwide criminal record check

    This is a 12-month position that includes full benefits.
