• Senior Painter

    Reports to: Preservation Crew Supervisor

     

    Job Summary: The Newport Restoration Foundation is seeking an experienced, full-time painter to manage and work alongside the organization’s paint crew of three full-time and one seasonal painter. NRF’s Paint Crew is responsible for the exterior and interior painting of the organization’s collection of historic properties, working alongside the Carpentry Crew. NRF is seeking a Senior Painter with strong painting and management experience.

     

    Salary Range: Depends on experience

    Specific Responsibilities:

     
    • Supervisor Responsibilities –
    • Supervision of paint crew while on job site
    • Seasonal project planning
    • Assist with other tasks including light carpentry and general maintenance as directed by the Preservation Crew Supervisor
     

    Paint Crew Responsibilities-

     
    • Preparation: 
      • Wash, scrape, sand and smooth interior and exterior surfaces.
      • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, or other fillers.
      • Remove fixtures such as lamps and electrical switch covers.
      • Cover surfaces with drop cloths to protect during painting process.
      • Operate compressors, spray equipment and other small power equipment.
      • Build scaffolding, staging, and ladders to reach surfaces of work area.
    • Paint: 
      • Paint or stain interior and exterior surfaces by hand.
    • Clean Up: 
      • Clean equipment, paint mixing/storage area, and work area.
      • Keep a clean safe work environment.
      • Follow OSHA hazardous material guidelines (Safety Data Sheets) for paint and stain application, storage, and cleanup of materials.
     

     

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

     
    • Climb stairs and work from ladders, staging and roofs. (no more than 2nd floor)
    • Lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Regularly bend, stretch and kneel.
    • Keep hands and arms steady while painting.
    • Work well as a member of the team.
    • Interact professionally with tenants and outside contacts.
    • Ability to follow supervisor’s instructions and also work independently.
    • Possess driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling to and from job sites.
    • General property maintenance and light carpentry skills are not required but would be advantageous.
    • Manage time both in quality job performance and in using paid time off.
     

     

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

     
    • 3+ years of project and personnel management experience.
    • Lead-based paint and RRP experience.
    • General property maintenance and light carpentry skills.
    • Experience working with historic properties and/or in museums.
     

    The position is a year-round, 40 hours-a-week position. The hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. NRF is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
