Broadway Street Fair Set for October 12

Our Newport community came together on May 24 for a night of music and fun led by blues legend James Montgomery at the Jane Pickens Theater and Event Center. A packed house welcomed the warmer weather, with many guests dancing in the aisles to the sweet sounds of James and the band.

This new annual summer kickoff event was produced by the Broadway Street Fair (BSF) production team. Since it was Memorial Day weekend, we decided to give back to our community by raising funds for Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, an organization that truly is a primary resource for homeless and at-risk veterans.

A U.S. Army veteran is on the BSF production team, and James Montgomery has a long history of helping veterans, having borne witness to their plight over the years.

We are pleased to announce that BSF has donated $1,700 to Operation Stand Down RI and recently delivered a check to the Newport office. The net proceeds also allowed us to donate about $1,200 back to BSF.

We thank our many guests for attending and showing their ongoing support. We’ve already received some early support for this year’s BSF from A-1 Roofing and Construction, Behan Bros. Inc., Discover Newport, the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, Newport Tent / PEAK, and People’s Credit Union.

Street fair organizers are now busy planning for October 12 and have a lot of excitement in the works for this year. We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support. That said, we need more dollars to create the biggest and best BSF ever, so please consider a donation and join these other great community stakeholders who have already made a commitment to help.
